ActiveHero Privacy Policy
ActiveHero is a game for iPhone and Apple Watch in which your real steps and workouts move a hero through a fantasy world. This policy explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.
ActiveHero is made by Thomas Curtis ("we"). If you have a question about this policy or your data, contact us at tomcybermails@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your Health data is read on your iPhone and stays there. We never receive it, sell it or use it for advertising.
- There are no accounts, and we run no servers or analytics of our own.
- The leaderboards are optional. If you join them, your scores go to Apple's Game Center and your hero's name goes to Apple's iCloud so other players can see them.
- The optional ads are provided by Google AdMob, which collects some device information to show and measure them. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland you are asked for consent first. The Ad-Free Pass removes ads.
Health data
With your permission, ActiveHero reads the following from Apple Health: steps, flights climbed, workouts (their type, length, distance and active energy), active energy, walking, running, cycling, swimming, wheelchair, rowing and paddling distances, swimming strokes, heart rate, sleep and standing time.
The app uses this data on your iPhone to move your hero, run fights and give rewards. It does not write anything to Health. It does not send your Health data to us, to Google or to any advertiser, and it does not store Health data in iCloud.
The one exception is your own choice: if you join the leaderboards, some totals worked out from your activity, including your total steps walked in the game, are posted as scores on Game Center (see below).
You can change or remove Health access at any time in the Health app or in Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > ActiveHero.
Motion
With your permission, the app uses your iPhone's and Apple Watch's motion sensors to count steps as you take them and to tell walking from running or riding. This happens on your devices and is not sent anywhere.
Your game
Your hero, items, camp and progress are saved on your iPhone and shared with the ActiveHero app on your Apple Watch, its widgets and its Live Activity. This data stays on your devices. If your iPhone backup includes ActiveHero, Apple keeps it as part of that backup.
Reminders and alerts are local notifications created on your device. You can turn them off in Settings > Notifications.
Leaderboards (optional)
The leaderboards use Apple's Game Center. Nothing is shared until you say yes in the app, and you can say no at any time.
If you join:
- Your scores are sent to Game Center: power, power gained this week, level, dungeons cleared, bosses beaten, enemies beaten, skills learned, finest finds, your camp and steps walked in the game. With each score goes a small description of your hero's appearance, so other players can see your hero.
- Your hero's name is stored in ActiveHero's public iCloud database, under your Game Center player ID, so other players can see it beside your scores.
- Other Game Center players can see your scores, your hero and your hero's name. Game Center itself shows your Game Center nickname and is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
If you stop sharing, the app stops sending scores and removes your hero's name from iCloud. Scores already posted are kept by Game Center; you can manage your Game Center data in Settings > Game Center.
Hero names are checked against a word filter, and you can hide any other player's name on your device.
Ads (optional)
You can choose to watch a short ad for some rewards, such as opening a chest. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To show ads, limit how often you see them, measure them and prevent fraud, Google's software collects information such as:
- a device identifier (the identifier for this app's developer on your device; ActiveHero does not ask to track you, so your device's advertising identifier is not available to it)
- your IP address and the approximate location worked out from it
- how you interact with ads
- performance and crash information about the ads
Google is never given your Health data or your game data. Ads are limited to content suitable for teenagers.
In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, ActiveHero asks for your consent through Google's consent form before ads are requested, and you can change your choice at any time with Ad privacy choices in the app's Settings. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
Buying the Ad-Free Pass removes ads.
Purchases
In-app purchases are handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment details. The app learns only which items you own, from Apple, so that it can give them to you and restore them.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not use your Health or fitness data for advertising or marketing.
- We do not run our own analytics, crash reporting or accounts.
Keeping and deleting your data
Deleting ActiveHero from your devices deletes your game. You can also permanently delete your character, and with it your data, in the game's settings. If you own the Ad-Free Pass, that purchase stays on your account even after your character is deleted. To remove your hero's name from the leaderboards, choose not to share in the app's leaderboards. Scores on Game Center are managed by Apple in Settings > Game Center.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information about you, and to complain to a data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office. Because we hold almost nothing about you, most of these choices are in your own hands on your device.
Changes
If we change how ActiveHero uses information, we will update this page and its effective date.
